Field History: Originally swampland and part of an orchard owned by Sheldon Funk, the Gabelsville A.A. baseball field was constructed in 1946. Slag balls from the local Boyertown foundry were used to dry the swampland and to lay a foundation on which it is built. Later, dirt from the orchard was used to level off and fill in the field. Evidence of this work can still be seen as the field appears to be dug into the surrounding hills.
